Vitamin D

Well, this is something I have never thought much about before until now. I recently had an annual "well doctor visit." As part of this visit I had to have a fasting blood test. All of my blood work came back perfect, even the good and bad cholesterol and blood sugar levels, except for one thing: I am low on Vitamin D! What?! How could ths be? Vitamin D is the "Sunshine Vitamin!" I happen to love sunshine! Maybe I am really mssing Texas so much that living in Northwest Arkansas is now affecting my Vitamin D levels! Ha! I am missing all of that warm Texas sunshine!

Well, if you haven't had your Vitamin D levels checked and you are over 50, then you might consider having this done. Apparently Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones and maintaining proper Calcium levels. My doctor has prescribed a pill that I will take once a month to correct this problem, so thankfully it's an easy fix! I'm feeling better already!

Scenes from Jennifer and Jarred's Wedding Weekend!

Well, we had such a good time at Jennifer and Jarred's wedding! It was great to be together with so many people that we love! If you were there, thank you for coming. And if you missed it, then we wish you had been there too!

I have to give Jennifer and Jarred all the credit for creating this beautiful weekend. It was Jennifer's vision of what she wanted the wedding and reception to "look like" and Jarred allowed her the space for creativity and supported her decisions and even had some input. Jennifer and Jarred even paid for some of the wedding because they wanted to help with the expenses. I think they make a great team! And, I wish them a lifetime of happiness together!

I have to say a special "thanks" to Ashley Brockman our wedding planner for making everything come together flawlessly. She put in many hours of work and she did a wonderful job. I remember the day that Jennifer and I realized that we would need some "professional help" with planning and coordinating a wedding in College Station, Texas with Jennifer living in Austin and going to school full-time, and me living in Bentonville, Arkansas, the wedding dress in Houston (Katy), Texas, we knew we were in over our heads! Thanks to Jennifer's research, we were able to secure the best wedding planner in College Station, Texas! I am forever grateful to her for all she did to help us!

Jennifer found her wedding dress at Weddings by Debbie Houston's Premier Bridal Salon located actually in Katy, Texas on I-10 west. They gave me this written description of her wedding gown: "Jennifer chose an ivory satin and lace gown designed by Alfred Sung. The elegant strapless gown had a delicate beaded lace top. The stylish bodice featured a rouched sash at the natural waist. The back was highlighted by timeless satin covered buttons. The classic A-line skirt cascaded to the floor had a chapel length train that made for an ethereal entrance." She made at least eight trips to Weddings by Debbie for fittings and try-ons. I made about half of these trips with her. They are truly expert at what they do at Weddings By Debbie!

Jennifer did her research on florists as well, and she chose absolutely the best florist in the Bryan/College Station area. Nita's Flowers in Bryan, Texas with Margie as our florist. She did such a great job with understanding what Jennifer wanted and creating the beautiful flower arrangements.

Amy McCormick was our photographer. Another one of Jennifer's great choices. She was so easy to work with and really did her best to take every picture we asked her to take. She was so patient with all of us! I am looking forward to seeing the wedding photos she took soon!

The Bride's Cake was by Cinderella Stories in Somerville, Texas. It was both beautiful and delicious! I know because I got to eat as much of the leftover cake as I wanted! It was a special white vanilla cake with a cherry filling between the layers. This was by special request from Jarred, and Jennifer wanted it to be the flavor that Jarred would like. The Groom's cake was made by Jarred's Aunt who owns a bakery in Beaumont, Texas. It was also very delicious!

Wade the DJ was so professional with his Livewire Productions business. He also did the up-lighting around the perimeter of the room which was definitely an asset to the look of the Hilton ballroom, and Ashley Brockman our wedding planner also provided the linens on the tables and the chair covers for the reception. They were all so beautiful! Thanks so much to everyone! It was so much fun!

I must not forget to thank the Hilton College Station event planner Ashley Lackey, Catering Sales Manager and also Caitlin her assistant. They worked so well with us and Ashley Brockman. The staff at the Hilton were all so patient and accommodating to everyone in our family and in placing us in rooms around in the hotel. The manager Adam Couch was especially gracious with us as he delt with the problem of the electricity going out on Thursday evening. He gave us a special $100 Visa Gift Card to go out to dinner on Thursday night. I will never forget the kindness that so many people showed to our family on this weekend.

I also would like to thank the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, Texas. The minister, Marie Mickey worked with Jennifer and Jarred on the ceremony and the church wedding coordinator was so good! They both really worked hard to make us feel welcome at their church and to ensure that our wedding would go smoothly. And it did! Also, they allowed us to have Rev. Chris Osborn a Baptist minister to come in and assist with the wedding at our request. The church was beautiful and accommodating to all who came, and I really appreciated that.

The organist/pianst was Edward Kane. He was outstanding!

A special thanks goes to all of our guests who traveled at least an hour or more and to all of those who stayed one or two nights at the Hilton with us in order just to attend Jennifer and Jarred's wedding. That shows extraordinary love that anyone would go to such lengths to attend a wedding! I love each one of you! Thank you so much!

Here are a few scenes from the Rehearsal and the Wedding Day! Enjoy!

(I'm sorry I don't have more pictures of everyone. I guess I was too busy to take pictures this time. Thanks to Beau and Kim for taking some of these pictures for me!)

I love the way Jarred treats his mom with such love and respect.
That is a good quality in a husband!

The Rehearsal Dinner was held at the Longhorn Tavern in Bryan, Texas.
I loved the table decorations all done by Jarred's mom and her friend.
They went to such detail to make it very special and personal.

Will she be the next one to get married?? That's the big question!

I think it was a bit further than they anticipated, but they are young and recovered quickly!

This is my sister, Rhonda, my mother, Gloria, and me at the Bridesmaid's Brunch given by Rhonda and her two daughters, Meg and Molly. It was great! There were sandwiches from Jason's Deli and Chick-fil-a nuggets, and a fruit tray and a vegetable tray. We had the brunch in the Bridesmaid's room at the Hilton where they all stayed together, and during the Brunch they were getting their hair and make-up done. It was chaotic and fun!

It was an especially beautiful day!

They were so much help throughout the entire time we were
planning the wedding because they let me stay at their home many
times as I was traveling back and forth to Texas, and they were very helpful
on the day before and the day of the Wedding.
Thanks Rhonda and John!
I love and appreciate them both so much!

Will they be next?

We were so glad they were able to come all the way from California!

A snapshot of the Bride and Groom cutting the cake!

Well, that's most of the pictures I was able to take. Some pictures didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, so I didn't include them in this post. But really the pictures don't do justice to the fun and beauty of the wedding. You just really had to be there to get the whole experience.

Jennifer, now that you're married, I hope you will still know how much we love you and how proud we are of you. You are such a smart and determined person as you have always been, and you showed such creativity in planning your wedding! I loved being a part of it and sharing this experience with you. You were such a beautiful bride and I will never forget how beautiful you looked coming down the aisle with your Daddy. The smile on your face and the tears in your eyes are imprinted on my heart forever because I know they were tears of joy because you were so happy that day. I love you and miss you so much, but I know that now you have started a new life with Jarred and you and Jarred make such a great team. I will enjoy sharing fun times with both of you in the years to come!

"May God bless you and keep you and make his face to shine upon you and give you peace."

Happy New Year 2012!

Wow! Where did 2011 go? It seems like time is passing too quickly in the Scott family! Just as we began last year with the wedding of our son Dan and our daughter-in-law Kim in February 2011, this year we are preparing for the upcoming wedding of our daughter, Jennifer to her beloved, Jarred on January 14, 2012. Well, the Scott children are growing up and leaving the nest to start their own families. That's how it should be, I know, but that dosen't make it any easier on the "Mother." I still long for those days when we all lived together as a family, and I got to have a front row seat in their lives. Now, Im having to move back a row and just watch as they have grown up. Fletcher and I are excited to see how they are turning out as adults.

Our youngest daughter, Amy, is also starting out on a new venture in her life as she will be moving to New York City to attend the Parson's School of New Design. As I write this she is packing up her small apartment in Atlanta, and getting ready for the big move. Oh, yes, I will worry about her, but she is a very determined person and intends to get this additional degree, so there's no stopping her. (I've already tried to talk her out of it.) I wish her all the best and great success at school in New York. I have never been there and as of now I don't have a trip planned, but who knows? Maybe I will get to visit New York City while she's there! Good Luck, Amy!

Jennifer will continue in the Pharm-D program at The University of Texas in Austin after she is married in January. She still has two years left to go in Pharmacy school. She and Jarred plan to live near Austin at least until she finishes school. Jarred will continue in his current position as a Paramedic supervisor in Hearne, TX.

Dan and Kim still live in Houston, TX where he continues to work at Ward, Getz and Associates as Civil Engineer, P.E. Kim continues to work at M.D. Anderson as a supervisor in the Research Division. We are so proud of them both!

Fletcher continues to sell Community Coffee to Walmart which is the reason that we now live in Bentonville, Arkansas. We are so thankful for this job which God has provided for us. May all the glory go to God for what he has done and continues to do to provide financially for our family. It is truly a miracle what God has done for us as he rescued our family from total unemployment following two corporate lay-offs for Fletcher in the last five years. We have learned to trust God for our daily provisions and not to take it for granted.

I have been "floating" here for a couple of years. I hope and pray that God will give me clear direction for some form of regular employment this year. I have done some substitute teaching since we have moved here to Northwest Arkansas, but I have been traveling to Texas and Louisiana pretty often, so I'm not available very often to substitute. It's been nice to have this flexibility, but I know the time has come for me to settle down and get back to work. So, I'm going to be looking for more opportunities to work ths year.

Recently Fletcher and I had to do a health assessment for our insurance, and we realized that 2011 was a very healthy year for us with very few doctor appointments and no major illnesses or surgeries. We are so thankful to God for good health and we pray that 2012 will be another year of good health. We are trying to eat healthier and we plan to get more regular exercise.

My prayer this year is that in everything I do or say in 2012 that I will stop and ask myself, "Will doing this or saying this glorify God?" and, I hope to live out the verses of Colossians 3:12-17 which are God's Rules for holy living, that I might clothe myself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, seeking to bear with others and to forgive whatever grievances I might have with others, just as the Lord has forgiven me. And most of all to love others in Christ which will bind us together in unity. I pray that the peace of Christ will rule in my heart since as a member of the body of Christ I have been called to be at peace with other Christians. And to be thankful in all things, allowing the word of Christ to dwell within me richly as I seek to teach and to admonish others with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in my heart to God. And I pray that whatever I do in word or deed, that I will do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Amen.

Happy 2012!
